The Nissan is mostly a calm-flowing river that steadily winds its way through more or less clear cut valleys. The river is constantly changing appearance, through the geological process known as meandering. The river digs itself into sandbanks and transforms the sand, creating new bends and curves. Sometimes an entire bend is cut off, creating a new little oxbow lake, or ‘ävja´ as it´s referred to around here. In a few areas, mainly the northern parts of the district, the river´s calm-flowing and gentle meandering is interrupted with more fast-flowing rapids where you can still find the Nissan salmon trout. Otherwise, the river contains our more common species of fish such as pike, roach and eel.
